The cornerstone of the winery was established in 1910 with the purchase of the first vineyards and wooden barrels. Josef Jamek dedicated himself to the winemaking, bought more vineyards, such as the famous Klaus, and in 1960 bottled the first single vineyard Riesling – at this tima groundbreaking move. Today Josef Jamek is rightly regarded as the doyen of the Wachau and one of the father of the Austrian wine miracle.
Since 1996, his son-in-law Hans Altmann is running the winery, that currently includes 25 hectares of vineyards. The Quality credo remains, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks today, then matured in large oak barrels. All the Jamek wines are characterized by their terroir, their natural fragrant and their variety.
