Build in the 13th century the Mauritiushof used to be a winery for the Bavarian Monks from Niederalteich. This historical winery now belongs to the young and ambitious winemaker Franz-Josef Gritsch. He has a lot of ideas and creativity and is always working on new projects like the Kalmuck wine or the recultivation of abandoned vineyards like the Atzberg.
The Grüner Veltliner Kalmuck was his biggest success so far. He created a fresh, mineral and elegant Veltliner, which is a perfect example for a light wine from the Wachau, and labeled the bottle with a pattern from a traditional winemakers costume, the Kalmuck pattern. Together with his great range of single vineyard wines this makes him a promising young winemaker for the future.
